Woot woot!
So I didn't realize that the weekly challenge was a healthy recipe, but conveniently I made hummus this afternoon and then checked the blog! It was really good, and really easy. I added some sundried tomatoes that we had kicking around, and would definitely recommend it.
HUMMUS!
1 (15 oz) can of garbonzo beans, drained
6-7 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons tahini
2 tablespoons minced onion
salt (optional)
2 tbs minced fresh parsley (optional)
1. Mash everything together, maybe in a blender. YUM.
2. makes about 1 3/4 cups, so it's good to double... also put w/e you want in it, like tomatoes and whatnot....mmmmm.

US Rock Climbing National Championships
Oh yes, I also went to Salt Lake yesterday to see the qualifiers for the National Championship Rock Climbing Competition! I was able to meet and chat with the second most famous(and best) climber in the US(maybe the world) who happens to be from portland ME, went to highschool there. Very cool. Here's a video of him climbing:
his name is Dave Graham

Taijiquan
For my 'research project' I found several books on Tai Chi Chuan (also written taijiquan, as I've discovered) and I've read the 1st half of one entitled 'applied tai chi chuan' which talks about the history and application of the form. I'm enjoying Tai Chi club very much and learning lots. I think I maybe should have another goal: Learn the entire Yang style tai chi form. (this will just be a personal goal for this semester i suppose)
Good luck this week!
Good luck this week!
A Room of one's Om!
For my goal this week, I read an article in Yoga Journal about creating a yoga space at home. I liked this - I think it can be applied to any goal in your life. "Making physical space at home for your practice can have a profound effect on your life. Dedicating space to your practice is a way to acknowledge your commitment to yoga. You are literally making room for it in your life. " Sooo . . we got inspired and are cleaning off the shelves in the backroom and are getting ready to paint the space. Add a natural rug, some candles etc. . and voila! - we will have a great mediation/yoga/tai chi space right here at home. We are all very excited! Keep making space for your goals this week!

Feet!
Hello hello! My article for this week's challenge is on learning to use your feet more effectively in climbing, which would be really helpful. It's at http://www.justclimb.com/Tips-Use-Your-Feet.html if you want to check it out!
ALSO-- I think I might be amending one of my ultimate goals because I just accomplished it last night and climbed my first v4!!! Woohoo! So I'm going to say that my NEW goal is to do a v5 by June, which might be a little tricky... but we'll give it a shot. Cool. Keep up the good work everyone!

Miracles happening already!
Yesterday I had the sweetest experiences with Fit for the Kingdom goals.
In the morning Mason came downstairs and said, "Mom when I got up in the middle of the night, I remembered I hadn't said my prayers, so I said them and then went back to bed!"
Grant got 100% of his goals done today - cello practise, Scouts, scriptures, prayer - he said when he went to bed, "Ahhh, I had my first perfect day!"
You are all such an inspiration to me! Keep it up!

Karen's Ambitious Plan
So finally, Mom unveils her ambitious and amazing plan. Sorry for being slow in posting it - some of it was
computer problems but mostly it was indecision!
Here goes:
Ultimate physical goal: Lose 5 pounds and five inches from anywhere! (hopefully my stomach and hips). Be able to run
and not be weary and to bike and not faint. My plan for this is to clock in 1000 miles in the next 22 weeks - mostly biking, but
also running, walking and skiing. Also I will develop a yoga studio in our home and a home yoga practise.
Ultimate spiritual goal: Following President Uchtdorf's talk to the Relief Society, I will assist
to "bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man" by developing a greater capacity for compassion
and for creativity and keep a journal of my progress and increased understanding.
So - the weekly break-down:
Exercise 45 minutes for 5 days a week - 1 pt per day
Yoga practise - 3 times a week - 2 pt per session
Food plan - observe portion sizes - 1/2 pt per day up to 6 days
Daily act of compassion - 1 pt per day up to 5 points
Daily effort in creativity - 1 pt per day up to 5 points
Continue daily scripture study and prayer - 1 pt for the entire week!
That's all! Along with drinking, sleeping and the weekly challenge!

Spencer's Goals
My mac is in the shop this weekend, so I'm borrowing my roomates computer. (For the record, it's still sunday here in Mountain Standard Time!)
Ok: Here are my two Big Goals:
Physical: climb a V6 bouldering route (I'm currently at a V4)
Spiritual: Finish BOM and (hehe) read the New Testament in Latin (This was kind of a fanatic idea that is more than likely not very inspired. We'll see :-)
Weekly Goals:
Climb/Hangboard workout---1 pt per day up to 5
Yoga/Tai Chi practice---- 1 pt per day up to 3
Daily Scripture study----1 pt per day up to 5
Not eat out or buy food---1 pt per day up to 4
Bike 2 miles or more----1 pt per day up to 4
Go to Devotional------2 pts
Not visit Facebook---1 pt per day up to 2
How does that sound?
I've been doing pretty well so far, by the way.
And it's only 11:55 so I think I get the weekly bonus!

Da Plan
Consider this the throw-down of the gauntlet, or whatever that phrase is! I'm sooo stoked to hear everyone's goals, but here are mine! (Do I get bonus points for being first? No? Anyone?)
Big Physical Goal: Win 500 butterfly in Olympics, right next to Mr. Phelps. (Just Kidding.)
Actually: Be 125 lbs at end of FFTK, and climb a v4. (I wasn't sure if I could do this or not-I thought if I couldn't do either I could lose all points--or if people weren't opposed to splitting the 200 points b/w 2 things, that would be great too...because I'm worried that I'll gain soooo much muscle mass that I won't be able to meet one of those. It's a legitimate worry, really. :P)
Smaller goals/point values:
Smaller goals/point values:
PS--did you know you can post in Wingdings, among 5 other boring fonts? That should be next weeks challenge: Can you translate each others' plans?!? Haha. Excited to hear all of your ideas!

Smaller goals/point values:
- Exercise 5 times/ week--and eventually be able to spell "exercise" correctly my first try... (5 points)
- Stretch 4 times/week (4 points)
- Pull-ups every time I hit the rock gym (1 point)
- 3+ veggies/day, 3+fruits/day (4 points)
- Only 1 dessert/day (1 point)
Smaller goals/point values:
- Write in a journal 6 days/week (6 points)
- Read 30 min/day, 15 min AM, 15 PM (approx) (4 points)
